Europan 17 Groenewoud

Groenewoud, Netherland

With the title “Grounding in Groenewoud” it was partepiated at the competition Europan 17. The project for the new district has the aim of making the feeling of belonging to the community in which people live. This feeling of belonging contributes to the sense of the identity of this community of the new Groenewoud district designed by investigating the urban measure of Dutch culture. The design of the volumes, the rhythm of the windows as well as the design and atmosphere of the plazas and streets are a reworking of the Dutch urban architectural tradition.
Urban space is designed for people’s lives. Indulge the moments and situations of everyday life made of travel, rest, meetings with neighbors. It is the design of the urban space, the layout of the buildings and the distribution of the windows that guarantee a visual relationship between the public sphere and the domestic sphere. In this way the opportunity to see and be seen is at the origin of the interaction relationship between people. This is considered essential so that neighbors can get to know each other more easily and build a feeling of belonging to the community. The project thus investigates the theme of inclusiveness by proposing, precisely through architecture, the possibility of building a multigenerational community.
