Nestled in the heart of the Val d’Orcia, this countryside cottage project was born as an intimate dialogue between the Tuscan rural heritage and an architectural vision devoted to essentiality.
In a landscape where the rolling hills draw infinite horizons, the building is not an alien element but a material extension of the ground itself. The choice of fragmented volumes and primary geometries reflects a desire to deconstruct the monumentality of the traditional farmhouse, offering a more human and discreet scale.
Here, architecture does not seek to overpower nature but to frame it, transforming every opening into a living canvas that shifts with the passing seasons and the cycle of the hours.

The identity of the cottage is defined by a vibrant skin of handmade long-format bricks, whose warm tones recall the scorched earths of Siena and local clays. The horizontal, slender laying of the masonry accentuates the connection to the soil, while the tall, soaring chimneys act as contemporary totems, evoking the archetype of the domestic hearth as the center of communal life. This material choice is not merely aesthetic; it represents an homage to solidity and permanence, an architecture that accepts the passage of time, becoming more beautiful as it acquires the natural patina that only authentic materials can achieve. The rugged texture of the brick contrasts with the precision of the glazed cuts, creating a play of light and shadow that lends profound depth to the facades.
Outside, the landscape design was conceived to blur the boundaries between the built and the wild. Instead of a formal garden, the cottage is surrounded by a spontaneous meadow where ornamental grasses, wildflowers, and emerging boulders celebrate the biodiversity of the Tuscan countryside. The outdoor space thus becomes a “sanctuary within a sanctuary,” where a fire pit surrounded by wooden seating invites conviviality under the starry sky, far from the noise of modernity. This holistic approach allows the house to breathe in unison with its surroundings, welcoming local fauna and integrating natural water features that reflect the purity of the architectural forms, creating an ecosystem in perfect balance.
Living in this cottage means rediscovering the luxury of simplicity and time regained. The interior spaces, glimpsed through large windows, are designed to be warm and welcoming, where wood and natural light are the true protagonists.
The studio’s philosophy is reflected in every detail: from the choice of sustainable materials to the pursuit of a beauty that requires no superfluous ornament.
This Val d’Orcia cottage is not simply a summer residence, but a manifesto of timeless architecture; a place where the solidity of conceptual balsa models turns into stone and breath, offering a lasting spatial experience that celebrates the harmony between man, space, and nature.
